A significant stride has been taken in the realm of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across Southern Africa. My Age Africa has officially commenced its coordination of the Southern Africa Investment Voucher Grant, initiating a pivotal new chapter in regional endeavors to enhance young people’s access to vital health services.
The launch of this initiative was underscored by an impactful inception meeting and a dedicated Digital Health Innovation (DHI) workshop, recently convened in South Africa. This gathering brought together key partners from across the region, including representatives from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, and Mauritius, signaling a unified commitment to the cause.
Fostering Collaboration and Innovation
The workshop served as a crucial platform, uniting IPPF Member Associations and civil society partners actively engaged in SRHR work throughout Southern Africa. Notable attendees included the Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia, Soul City Institute for Social Justice, Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association, and Positive Vibes Foundation, alongside numerous other regional organizations.
Discussions at the workshop were meticulously structured around three core pillars: facilitating knowledge exchange among member associations, fortifying organizational governance, and optimizing the utilization of digital tools to deliver SRHR services more efficiently. The overarching objective remains both clear and ambitious: to ensure that young people across Southern Africa can readily access the health services they require, irrespective of their geographical location.
Through its leadership in coordinating the Investment Voucher Grant, My Age Africa is strategically positioned to empower member associations in transforming this ambition into tangible, on-the-ground enhancements in service delivery, with a particular emphasis on digital health innovation.
Soul City Returns to Spark Vital Conversations
Adding a unique cultural dimension to the week’s events, My Age Africa proudly supported the launch of the latest production from the acclaimed Soul City Institute. This marks the return of the enduring and influential series to screens with a compelling new drama titled “Let’s Rise” (known in isiZulu as “Shayi’ndlela”).
For decades, Soul City has stood as one of Southern Africa’s most recognized and effective vehicles for leveraging storytelling to catalyze shifts in social norms. Its return is especially timely, as “Let’s Rise / Shayi’ndlela” is poised to ignite regional dialogues on critical themes such as gender, power dynamics, and the intensified peer pressure often amplified by influencer culture – pressures that increasingly shape the experiences of young people throughout Southern Africa.
By masterfully blending entertainment with education, the series upholds Soul City’s long-standing tradition of engaging audiences where they are, thereby fostering crucial conversations that formal health and governance systems frequently find challenging to initiate independently.

The recent inception meeting and workshop signify not an end point, but rather the crucial commencement of a coordinated, multi-country undertaking. With partners now firmly aligned around the shared objectives of robust governance, enhanced digital health delivery, and deeper regional collaboration, My Age Africa and its partners are now channeling their collective energies towards the vital phase of implementation.
