Fostering a New Generation of Health Advocates!!

 The CDHIKPSA Advocacy Academy

Health Fonds, in collaboration with My Age Zimbabwe and Associação Geração Saudável Mozambique, hosted an  Advocacy Academy as part of the Community-Driven Health Intervention for Key Populations in Southern Africa (CDHIKPSA) consortium. This initiative, supported by Aids Fonds and the Love Alliance, represents a significant investment in the future of health advocacy within the Southern African region.

The Academy brings together a cohort of passionate young advocates from both Zimbabwe and Mozambique, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts and collaborate on innovative solutions to pressing community health challenges. The curriculum is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of critical topics, including rights-based approaches to health, the intricacies of national, regional, and global advocacy frameworks, as well as effective community mapping and response strategies.

A key objective of the Academy is to empower these young leaders to co-create bold, community-led campaigns that address the specific health needs of their respective populations. By fostering a collaborative environment, the program aims to cultivate a network of advocates who are not only knowledgeable but also deeply connected to the communities they serve.

Recognizing the demanding nature of advocacy work, the Academy also places a strong emphasis on the well-being of its participants. Dedicated sessions focus on wellness, mental health, winding down techniques, and burnout prevention, ensuring that these young advocates are equipped to sustain their passion and commitment over the long term. This holistic approach underscores the understanding that effective advocacy begins with self-care.

The CDHIKPSA Advocacy Academy is more than just a training program; it is a catalyst for change. By empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to advocate for improved health outcomes, this initiative promises to drive meaningful progress towards a healthier future for key populations in Southern Africa. The convergence of young talent, innovative ideas, and community power within this Academy holds immense potential for shaping the landscape of health advocacy in the region.
