Stepping into My Age Africa as an intern has proven to be a transformative experience, characterized by profound learning, a strong sense of purpose, and meaningful engagement. Throughout my attachment, I had the privilege not only to contribute to youth-focused programs but also to experience personal and professional growth within an organization deeply committed to empowering young people across the African continent.
From the outset, the organization’s dynamic and youth-friendly atmosphere fostered an environment where learning was both engaging and immediately applicable. My involvement in programs centered on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), mental health, capacity building, and advocacy campaigns provided invaluable insights into the practical realities of development work. Actively participating in planning meetings, community outreach activities, and digital advocacy campaigns served to strengthen my confidence and sharpen my communication and organizational skills.
My internship journey has been punctuated by significant and unforgettable experiences, largely stemming from my support of SRHR and mental health campaigns. Contributing to community discussions, assisting in the creation of youth-friendly content, and supporting awareness-raising initiatives have allowed me to witness firsthand the direct impact on the lives of young people.
Being part of an international movement has broadened my understanding of advocacy tactics, gender-based violence, and the potential of youth to effect meaningful change.
My participation in Digital Content Creation, encompassing everything from post design to writing instructional content for social media platforms, provided practical experience in digital communication and youth engagement. Moreover, attending various training sessions and workshops granted me access to learning resources that significantly improved my understanding of sustainability, mental health, leadership, and project execution.
I was particularly drawn to the organization’s emphasis on youth engagement and inclusivity. From brainstorming sessions to event organization, I consistently felt valued, and every voice was heard. The creative freedom afforded to me, coupled with encouraging mentorship and exposure to real-world development challenges, made this attachment not only fascinating but also incredibly rewarding.
My time at My Age Africa transcends the typical internship experience; it represents a journey of self-discovery and a catalyst for my aspirations to become a young leader. This experience has solidified my understanding of the critical role young people play in developing solutions for gender-based violence, mental health challenges, SRHR issues, and the pursuit of sustainable development.
As I move forward, I carry with me the knowledge, skills, and passion cultivated during this attachment. My Age Africa serves as a constant source of inspiration for positive change, and I remain steadfastly dedicated to supporting youth empowerment.
