
My Age Zimbabwe, together with stakeholders, participated in the 2nd Quarter Coordination Meeting in Masvingo District, convened by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises. This meeting provided a crucial forum for key stakeholders to discuss ongoing programs, identify challenges, and formulate recommendations aimed at strengthening Gender-Based Violence (GBV) programming within the district.
A primary focus of the meeting was the critical need for consistent and comprehensive reporting of GBV cases to the Ministry. By consolidating data from all implementing organizations, the district aims to establish a reliable statistical foundation for informed decision-making, enabling the design and implementation of targeted and effective interventions. This collaborative approach to data collection is essential for accurately reflecting the realities of GBV in Masvingo and tailoring responses accordingly.
The Ministry of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment highlighted the achievements of Tinevimbo Mavetera, a young woman from Masvingo serving as the Vice President of the Junior Parliament. Her leadership was celebrated as a significant source of inspiration for young people in the district, demonstrating the potential for positive change and empowerment.
Addressing a critical operational challenge, the Zimbabwe Republic Police raised concerns regarding the increasing incidence of aggravated indecent assault. They emphasized the urgent need for transportation support to bolster the response capabilities of the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU). Enhanced mobility is paramount for ensuring timely assistance and justice for survivors.
In a positive development aimed at strengthening community support structures, plans were announced to rehabilitate one of the largest beerhalls in Mapanzure into a district rehabilitation center. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in reducing social vulnerabilities and providing comprehensive support services.
The Office of the District Development Coordinator (DDC) emphasized the importance of regular activity reporting by all stakeholders to ensure the DDC’s office receives comprehensive information for quarterly review meetings. Active participation in social services cluster meetings was also strongly encouraged, recognizing their critical role in fostering coordinated district-level programming.
The 2nd Quarter Coordination Meeting concluded with a commitment to enhanc reporting mechanisms, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and an improve overall response to GBV.
